First Annual BC/WA Cross-Border Expo a Major Success

By: Elliott Smith
The First Annual BC/Whatcom Cross-Border Expo took place at the Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa in Ferndale, WA on June 6, 2013 and was a major success. The event was organized by the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, UCanTrade, Inc. and Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa.
An estimated total of 350 people attended the Expo. The two seminars attracted a total of about 50 in the audience: 30 for the AM seminar on Cross-Border Business and 20 for the PM seminar on Cross-Border Real Estate investing.
A heartfelt thanks is owed to the ten sponsors who helped make the Expo happen:

The Expo was promoted on the radio in Washington and BC, both in paid advertising and as a feature story on several radio shows. Mike Kent featured the Expo on Bellingham’s KGMI 790 AM during his weekly “Radio Real Estate” show, a podcast of which can be found here. The Expo was also featured on CBC Radio One Vancouver’s “Early Edition” with Rick Cluff (skip to 2:01:45 to hear the Cross-Border Expo discussed on the podcast here).
News stories about the Expo appeared in newspapers and news websites around Washington and BC, including the Bellingham Herald, Tacoma News Tribune, Business in Vancouver, Ferndale-Record Journal (link requires subscription to read), The Olympian, Peace Arch News, Bellingham Business Journal, The (Blaine) Northern Light and more.
Import Export A great deal of thanks as well to the many sponsors, exhibitors and attendees who promoted the Expo on their blogs, facebook pages, email newsletters and twitter feeds. Many people on both sides of the border assisted greatly in getting the word out, including Ken Flanders of UCanTrade and New Business Navigators and Patti Rowlson of PR Consulting. A special thanks also to Pacific Customs Brokers for promoting the Expo through their blog and social media platforms. Thanks to all who assisted with publicity, there were many people and organizations who helped raise awareness of the event, too numerous to mention here.
Feedback from exhibitors has been positive. Companies that chose to purchase a booth at the Expo reported they found the investment worthwhile. In planning for the 2014 Expo, organizers have already highlighted goals of further publicity in British Columbia and increased attendance from BC residents as targets for the next event.
If you attended the Expo and have feedback for the 2014 organizers, please email your thoughts and suggestions to
